Tree Pruning & Trimming Sydney

Thinning, shaping, crown lifting and branch clearance from roofs, gutters and wires. Good pruning keeps a healthy tree safe and looking its best, without the damage that hard lopping does.

What we do

Tree Pruning & Trimming across Sydney

Not every problem tree needs to come out. Thinning out branches or reshaping a tree can fix overhanging limbs, too much shade or a crown that catches the wind, and keep the shade and privacy you planted it for. We have the tools and the experience to prune trees of any size, from a garden ornamental to a big gum over the roof.

We prune with the tree's long-term health in mind. Cuts are made in the right place so the tree can seal over, and we take out the dead, damaged and crossing wood first. Hard topping or 'lopping' a tree back to stubs looks tidy for a season, then grows back as weak, crowded shoots that are more likely to fail. We will always tell you if that is what you are being asked for.

Common jobs include lifting branches off roofs and gutters, clearing overhanging limbs from neighbours' yards, trimming branches back from the service wires to the house, and thinning a dense crown to let light into the garden.

What's included

Crown thinning

Selective removal of branches through the canopy to cut wind load and let light through.

Roof and gutter clearance

Branches cut back from the house, off the roof and away from gutters.

Trees that have outgrown their space reduced and reshaped with proper cuts.

FAQ

Tree Pruning & Trimming in Sydney: common questions

What is the difference between pruning and lopping?

Pruning removes selected branches back to a junction or the trunk, so the tree stays healthy and keeps its natural shape. Lopping cuts branches or the trunk back to stubs, which leads to weak regrowth and decay. We prune properly and will tell you if a tree really needs reducing or removing instead.

Can I cut my neighbour's branches that hang over my fence?

In NSW you can usually trim branches that overhang your property, as long as you don't harm the tree and the council's tree rules allow it. If you can't agree with your neighbour, the Land and Environment Court deals with tree disputes under the Trees (Disputes Between Neighbours) Act 2006. We can do the work once you have the go-ahead.

Do I need council approval to prune a tree?

It depends on your council and how much is being removed. Many councils allow minor pruning without a permit but control heavier pruning of protected trees. We check the rules for your address when we quote.

When is the best time to prune?

Most trees can be pruned at any time of year. Dead or dangerous branches should come off as soon as possible, and flowering trees are best pruned after they flower. We'll advise on the right timing for your tree.
